GREENSBORO, N.C. – Opening up the 2013 Track and Field NCAA Preliminary Round, Lipscomb junior sprinter Tucker Peabody finished sixth in the 100-meter dash. The preliminary round for the east region is taking place in Greensboro, N.C. and is hosted by North Carolina A&M.
Peabody crossed the finish line in 10.55 seconds but was not quick enough to move on to the quarter final round.
“We though Tucker might qualify for the quarterfinal round but we didn’t expected him to qualify for the national finals,” Bill Taylor, director of cross country and track and field, said. “While his race today wasn’t what he wanted, it really isn’t that big of a deal.”
Peabody also qualified for the 200-meter dash for the east regional. He will run the first round of the 200-meter dash on Friday.
“He said he was a little nervous today,” Taylor said. “That was the main reason we had him run the 100, to get the nerves out of the way today. He can relax for his specialty, the 200, tomorrow. He will be ready.”
The 200-meter dash is scheduled for 7:25 p.m. Friday. Peabody runs in the third heat.
Also competing on Friday is freshman Madi Talbert. She competes in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 7:50 p.m. Gemikal Prude competes in the high jump on Saturday.
