NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Bill Taylor, Lipscomb’s director for cross country and track & field, has announced the addition of Daniel Goetz as cross country and track & field assistant coach and operations coordinator.
"We are really excited to add Daniel to our staff,” Taylor said. “He is a young up and coming coach with experience at a variety of schools.
“He fits our culture extremely well and will be a great asset to our programs. I look forward to working with Daniel, to helping him grow as a coach, and to watching his impact on our athlete and team success."
Goetz is eager to help the Lipscomb programs become an even greater force in the conference as well as nationally.
“This is a great opportunity,” Goetz said of his decision to join the Lipscomb staff. “One of the things that stuck out to me was that everyone is academically driven. I think that is great to have people who are willing to work hard in all areas of their life whether it is academics, athletics or spiritual.”
While coaching at ETSU Goetz watched the Lipscomb program and was impressed with that he saw.
“What really stuck out with me in track meets were the Lipscomb athletes supporting their teammates even if it wasn’t their discipline competing,” Goetz said. “There was a lot of team bonding, whether it was a really good or really bad result. They enjoyed being with each other, being a part of the team and helping to build the Lipscomb tradition.”
“What really drew me to Lipscomb was something that I have been missing since I was at Bryan,” Goetz said. “It is the idea of competing for things bigger than yourself. Track and cross country should have a place in your life, but you can’t make it everything.
“I feel like it is a family here. I haven’t felt that since I was at Bryan.”
He qualified four times for the NAIA Cross Country Championships and earned All-America acclaim in the mile in 2008 for a fourth-place finish on the oval. He also was rewarded for his work in the classroom, picking up NAIA Academic All-America accolades in 2009 and 2010.
