NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Three tournaments and a regular season kickoff against Belmont highlight the 2013 Lipscomb men’s soccer schedule.
“I am excited that we have the opportunity to test our team early,” head coach Charles Morrow said. “We have eight returning starters from the semifinal team from last year. We will also get a couple of early tests in exhibition games.”
The Bisons will play two warm-up matches against Martin Methodist on Aug. 16 and University of Alabama-Huntsville on Aug. 22 at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex before the regular season gets underway.
Having laid claim to the last four “Battle of the Boulevard’s” the Bisons will look to make it five straight in the season opener on Aug. 30 as Belmont makes the short drive down Belmont Boulevard.
Lipscomb travels to the first of three straight tournaments beginning in Dayton, Ohio. The Bisons will clash with Eastern Illinois University on Sept. 6 and the host, University of Dayton on Sept. 8.
The following weekend Lipscomb heads up the road to E.S. Rose Park for contests with Cleveland State on Sept 13 and the University of Illinois-Chicago on Sept. 15 at the Belmont Mafioza’s Invite.
The Hyatt Place Select/Lipscomb Invitational brings Appalachian State, Belmont and Central Arkansas to the Bisons’ home turf. Belmont battles Central Arkansas in game one on Sept. 20 while the Bisons look to give a show to the hometown fans against Appalachian State in the second game.
On Sept. 22 Belmont and Appalachian State tango in game one while Lipscomb battles Central Arkansas in game two.
“I think Dayton’s tournament, Belmont’s tournament and our tournament will all be great tests to see where we are at heading into the conference season in October,” Morrow said. “Not only tests to see where we are at but great preparation for what should be a good conference schedule.”
A set of road games close out the non-conference schedule for Lipscomb. The Purple and Gold travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Sept. 26 and follow that with a trip to Missouri State on Sept. 29.
The Atlantic Sun Conference season gets underway as the Bisons travel to Florida Gulf Coast, defending A-Sun champions and NCAA participants, Oct. 4. Lipscomb travels to Stetson on Oct. 6 to end the four-game road trip.
The home portion of the A-Sun schedule kicks off with three straight games at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex led by Jacksonville on Oct. 11. North Florida travels to “Music City” on Oct. 13. The homestand closes with Northern Kentucky on Oct. 19.
Lipscomb travels to USC Upstate on Oct. 26 before stepping out of conference play to host the University of Evansville on Oct. 29.
