NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nine teams that played in the post season a year ago and the first ever match up against Tennessee highlight the 2013 Lipscomb women’s basketball schedule.
We have set up a challenging schedule for our team,” head coach Greg Brown said. “It will give us some experiences in great environments while preparing us for the Atlantic Sun season.”
The Lady Bisons have a pair of tune up contests, Oct. 28 vs Freed Hardeman and Nov. 6 against Fisk, before the regular season gets rolling with a home game against Morehead State on Sunday. Nov. 10.
Lipscomb travels to 2013 WNIT participant UAB on Nov. 12 before returning home for the “Battle of the Boulevard” on Nov. 18. Belmont competed in the first round of the WBI last season.
A second-straight home game on Nov. 18 welcomes Austin Peay to Allen Arena.
A trip to Kentucky will be the second-ever meeting between the two schools on Nov. 21. Kentucky was an NCAA Tournament participant a year ago and finished the season ranked No. 7. They last met in 2007.
On Nov. 26 the Lady Bisons stay in the “Music City” but travel across town to take on Tennessee State.
The Purple and Gold make a final appearance in Allen Arena in 2013 on Nov. 30 hosting Murray State.
After a 17 day break, the Lady Bisons travel to their second contest against an NCAA Tournament participant in Georgia. The game takes place on Dec. 17 in Athens, Ga. The Lady Bulldogs ended 2013 ranked No. 14 in the country.
Lipscomb closes out its pre-Christmas schedule at the Wright State Invitational presented by the Holiday Inn facing Bradley on Dec. 20. On the 21st the Lady Bisons will face either Gardner-Webb or Wright State.
On Dec. 29 the Purple and Gold will travel to Knoxville to face Tennessee for the first time in the NCAA era. The game also becomes a homecoming of sorts for Brown as he served as a graduate assistant and assistant coach under Pat Summit.
“It is always great to play the Kentucky’s and the Tennessee’s,” Brown said. “They are great models of excellence and where we are working to get to.”
The Lady Vols will make a return trip to Nashville during the 2014-15 season to face the Lady Bisons.
Lipscomb opens its Atlantic Sun Conference season to start the new year. The Lady Bisons open on the road at ETSU on Jan. 2 and at USC Upstate on Jan. 4.
The following weekend the Purple and Gold welcome Kennesaw State on Jan. 9 and WBI participant Mercer on Jan. 11.
The Lady Bisons embark on a three-game road trip beginning Jan. 16 and 18 traveling to the “Sunshine State” to take on Jacksonville and North Florida, respectively. The road trip concludes with a trip to the “Bluegrass State” to face Northern Kentucky on Jan. 25.
Returning to Allen Arena, Lipscomb hosts a pair of postseason squads from a year ago with Florida Gulf Coast on Jan. 30 and Stetson on Feb. 1. FGCU is the defending A-Sun regular season champion and WNIT participant while Stetson won the A-Sun Tournament earning the right to play in the NCAA Tournament.
Starting the second round of A-Sun action, the Lady Bisons travel to Kennesaw State on Feb. 6 followed by a trip to Mercer on Feb. 8.
The Lady Bisons then begin their longest homestand of the season by hosting Jacksonville on Feb. 13 and North Florida on Feb. 15. Northern Kentucky comes to Allen Arena on Feb. 22 in a matchup of travel partners.
Hitting the road in a return trip to Florida, the Lady Bisons travel to FGCU and Stetson on Feb. 27 and March 1, respectively.
Closing out the A-Sun and regular season on its home court, the Purple and Gold hosts ETSU on March 6 and USC Upstate on March 8.
