NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In a season that has already changed the record books, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team looks to continue its strong play with the beginning of the Atlantic Sun Conference season.
The Lady Bisons have set 10 records this season, led by freshman Ellen Lundy with 20 points and nine goals through nine games. As a team, the squad has scored more goals, points and have more assists than any other previous Lipscomb squad.
Lipscomb, 3-4-2 overall, begins A-Sun action at Kennesaw State Friday and at Mercer Sunday.
Kennesaw State begins the A-Sun slate with a 3-5-0 record having played four BCS level schools. The offense is led by Maggie Gaughan with two goals and the only Owl to have scored more than one goal. Goalkeeper Olivia Sturdivant has played every minute amassing 35 saves and a 1.38 goals against average.
Mercer enters the weekend 5-4-1 overall. The Bears open A-Sun action Friday night hosting Northern Kentucky. Mercer has an offensive attack that ranks 31st nationally and leads the A-Sun with 73 points. The 2.5 goals scored per game ranks 27th in the NCAA.
Washida Blackman leads the squad with five goals and 12 points. Lauren Gassie has three goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Maggie Cropp has started every game in the net and has accumulated 39 saves and a 1.51 goals against average.
Last in action on Sunday, the Lady Bisons fell 2-1 to Western Kentucky as the Lady Toppers notched a goal in the 84th minute to take the lead. Junior Baylee Linnell scored the Purple and Gold’s goal early in the second half.
Lundy’s nine goals rank her 10th in the nation while her 20 points places her 12th. Her one goal a game average places her 13th nationally.
Linnell leads the squad with 25 shots, 12 on goal. She has accumulated 13 points with five goals and three assists. Sophomore Molly Bray has two goals and an assist in the first half of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Anna Buhigas has four shutouts to her credit, which ties a season-best for Lipscomb. She has 44 saves and a 1.06 goals against average.
The Lady Bisons return to the Lipscomb Soccer Complex on Friday, Oct. 4 hosting Stetson at 7 p.m.
