NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2013-14 Lipscomb women’s basketball season is officially underway.
After a month and a half of individual workouts and team sessions, the Lady Bisons kicked off practice Tuesday morning in McQuiddy Gymnasium.
With seven new student-athletes on the squad, practices in the early portion of the year are dealt with evaluation.
“The key is we are still evaluating with so many new faces,” second-year head coach Greg Brown said. “You go from individual skills to combining those with team skills. It is just trying to get those things to weave together and add transition to it.
“We talk about a whole-part-whole process and this gives us a chance to do some of the whole part of teaching.”
Although the first practice officially kicked off, the Lady Bisons have had a few workouts by taking advantage of a new NCAA rule.
“You get 40 days from your first game to get 30 days of practice,” Brown said. “Instead of the old Oct. 1, where you felt like you were rushed, it gives you time to acclimate in and evaluate.
“It is a very good rule and is a steady progression from individual workouts to team workouts to now practice.”
Lipscomb has two exhibition contests, Oct. 28 against Freed-Hardeman and Nov. 6 vs Fisk, before kicking off the regular season against Morehead State on Nov. 10. All three games are in Allen Arena.
