The Lipscomb men’s soccer team travels to USC Upstate for a Saturday matchup at 6 p.m.
With four games left, the Bisons currently reside in fourth place in the Atlantic Sun, but still control their own destiny. To get a bye in the A-Sun tournament next month, Lipscomb must climb its way into one of the top-two spots in the standings.
Lipscomb is 7-6-1 overall and 3-2 in conference. The seven wins match 2012’s win total with four games remaining.
The Bisons are led offensively by Omar Djabi’s eight goals. He ranks first in the A-Sun and 20th nationally.
With his goal against Northern Kentucky, Luke Gearin pushed his scoring total to four for second-most on the team.
An early lead would be ideal for the Bisons. When it scores first, Lipscomb is 7-0, but when the other team strikes first, the Bisons are 0-6-1.
Lipscomb has outshot their opponents in 10 of 14 matches this season and ranks second in the conference with 185 shots taken.
Micah Bledsoe has guarded the net for the Bisons in every game, collecting 51 saves while only allowing 16 goals. His 1.13 goals allowed average is second in the conference. Bledsoe has a save percentage of .761 with three shutouts.
In all, the Bisons have four shutouts this season which ranks third in the A-Sun.
Coming off its only win this season, USC Upstate looks to build momentum to end the season. Last Saturday, Upstate won at North Florida 4-3 and improved to 1-8-2, 1-3-1 in conference play.
Lipscomb is 4-3 all-time against the Spartans. The Bisons defeated Upstate 1-0 in the first round of the A-Sun tournament to split the two matchups in 2012.
The Spartans are led by Canadian forward, Dave Musambi. He has five goals for the year. No other Spartan has more than one.
Dani Alvarado and Hassan El-Haddad have split time in the net. Alvarado has a record of 0-5-1 with 16 saves and 13 goals allowed, with credit for one shutout.
Haddad has given up 12 goals and saved 18 to stand 1-3-1.
Upstate has not scored a goal in the first half of any game on the season and has been outscored 25-11 overall.
Lipscomb returns to the Lipscomb Soccer Complex to face the Evansville Purple Aces in its last nonconference match of the year on Tuesday Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.
