NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team is set to travel outside of the “Music City” for the first time this season on Monday night for a nonconference tilt against in-state foe UT-Martin at the Skyhawk Arena in Martin.

“I think we’ll be a better team Monday night than the one that played five days ago against Belmont,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “We’ve used that loss, watched tape closely and had a couple of good practices, so I’m expecting a good game”

The Bisons (2-3) are coming off a 94-64 loss to Belmont on Wednesday night while the Skyhawks (1-5) are coming off a tough 68-64 home loss to Jackson State.

“UT-Martin plays a lot of guys,” said Alexander.  “They’re in a situation where they need a win badly having lost two in a row at home.  I expect Monday night will be a competitive game, very similar to what we saw at Tennessee State game that went down to the wire, and a game that we can win.”

The 7:30 p.m. tilt is set to air live on 94.9 Game 2 with Jonathan Seamon and Jay Walton on the call.  The game will also be broadcast on the OVC Network online.

  • Redshirt freshman J.C. Hampton leads the Bisons in scoring with a 14.2 points per game average that leads a balanced attack of four scorers in double figures.  Hampton’s numbers rank him fifth in the Atlantic Sun as the top freshman scorer in the league.  He is also tied for 16th nationally in freshmen scoring.
  • Junior forward Martin Smith is expected to start his 46th consecutive game on Monday night.  The last time Martin Smith was not in the starting lineup was in 2012 at USC Upstate.
  • The Bisons last three wins over UT-Martin have been by an average of 19.3 points.
  • Following a short break for Thanksgiving the Bisons travel outside of the state of Tennessee for the first time on Saturday for a first-ever meeting with Georgetown.
