SOMIS, Calif. - On Monday the Lipscomb men’s golf team opened the Jones Invitational by playing 36 of the 54-hole event.
As a team the Bisons posted a total score of 631, 55-over par and finished the opening day tied for 11th in a 12-team field.
Freshman Stoney Crouch paced the Bisons on Monday, firing a five-over par 77 in the opening round. Crouch followed with a 78 in the afternoon round and finished the day 38th overall with a two round total of 155.
After carding an 81 on the opening 18 holes, Sydney Chung bettered his scored with a 78 in the second round. His 159 total puts him in a tie for 50th.
Dowling Armstrong finished just behind Chung, tied for 53rd. Armstrong posted rounds of 77-83 for a two round total of 160.
Rounding out the Purple and Gold scorecard from the Saticoy Country Club was freshman Mikey Feher (57th) and junior Caston Roberts (63rd). Feher shot a 6-over 78 in the first round before turning in an 83 for the second.
Roberts, former Pepperdine stick swinger, was just five over par through the first nine holes of the day, but a 7-hole stretch on the backside proved costly, where he went nine-over par to finish with an 86 in round one. Roberts cashed in two eagles on the backside par-5s in the second round to improve his day with a seven-over par 79 to end day one.
No. 23 ranked Southern California leads the Jones Invitational with a team score of 585 (+9).
The third and final round will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
