NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Bisons tennis team is back in action at home Friday and Saturday at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center.
The Bisons, 2-8, 1-1 in the Atlantic Sun, face USC Upstate, 4-10, 0-2 in the conference, at 9 a.m. The women’s teams will play at 1 p.m.
Saturday the men will host ETSU at 10 a.m. followed by the Lady Bisons at 2 p.m.
“We are excited to be in the middle of conference play right now,” Lipscomb men’s coach Mario Hernandez said. “This is the most intense and fun part of the season. “
The Bisons have enjoyed time away from the classroom during spring break. They have also had some time to heal some injuries.
“We are also excited because we have had this week off from classes to take care of the health of the team and to focus primarily on tennis during spring break,” Hernandez said. “I believe our preparation has been good this week and we should be ready to go. “
The Bisons have dealt with injuries and a depleted roster for much of the season. Hernandez his able to fill all match spots in conference play.
“Every week is about making adjustments from the previous week in order to get better,” Hernandez said. “For us we have focused primarily on executing our level of play consistently.
“It's about playing at the level you know you can play at, but doing it throughout the match. We want to prevent having ups and downs in our level throughout the match.”
The Bisons opened the A-Sun portion o f the season with a 4-3 win at Mercer and a 6-1 loss at Kennesaw State.
"We have to stay consistent with what we know how to do and make the other team have to come up with something big to beat you,” Hernandez said. “I'm interested to see how we respond after a tough loss. That's the true sign of whether we truly are tough or not.”
