NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With year number one in the books, Lipscomb men’s basketball staff has added three players to the roster for the 2014-15 season adding some much-needed size and depth for the Bisons.
Suiting up in Purple and Gold will be freshmen Asa Duvall and Nathan Moran along with graduate transfer Chad Lang. That trio will join fall signees Aaron Korn and George Brammeier on the squad this coming season.
“Our staff is thrilled to add these three guys to the program,” said Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander. “They fill in some gaps for us and offer balance and depth to the experienced group we have returning. All three come from great families and highly successful programs.”
Duvall is fresh off a standout season at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., following his prep career at Brentwood high school. Rated a 3-star shooting guard by 247Sports.com, Duvall averaged 17.4 points per game and 5.2 assists per outing as Hargrave’s floor general in 2013-14. He helped lead the Tigers to a No. 2 national ranking among postgraduate programs and a 32-8 mark.
A McDonald’s All-American nominee as a prepster, Duvall averaged 13 points and five rebounds per night for Brentwood High School. Duvall helped lead the Bruins to the state championship game as a senior including hitting a buzzer beater in the semfinals of the state tournament to secure a win for BHS.
The sharpshooter is ranked as the No. 74 best shooting guard in the country and the 15th-best player in the state of Virginia. Duvall will have four years of eligibility for the Bisons after his one season at Hargrave.
Like Duvall, Moran is a local product from the midstate having prepped at Battle Ground Academy where he led the Wildcats to their first TSSAA state championship in more than 20 years. The guard earned tournament MVP honors with a 17-point performance in the title game played at Allen Arena.
“Nathan is a winner, plain and simple as we all learned by his MVP state championship season,” said Alexander. “His competitiveness will make a big impact on our team.”
With Duvall and Moran adding depth to the Bisons backcourt, Lang joins the team as a much-needed inside presence for the Purple and Gold in the post.
“Chad comes to us from a very successful and well coached program,” said Alexander. “As a fifth-year graduate student, we'll expect his experience to pay off and make a real difference for our team. We needed size & depth inside and Chad offers both. I think a fresh start at Lipscomb will serve him well.”
The 6-foot-11 center averaged nearly five minutes of action per game last season at Belmont. He averaged 2.5 points per game and added one rebound per contest for the Bruins. The Marietta, Ga. native is a four-time academic all-conference selection.
Lang will be eligible to suit up with the squad for the 2014-15 season due to the graduate transfer rule.
