The Lady Bisons Volleyball program just proved why they were voted 1st in the Atlantic Sun Preseason poll. 

Playing in the Atlantic Sun Game of the Week at the Lady Vol Classic against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech, the Lady Bisons went the distance early, winning the first 3 sets of the match.

“I told the girls after our first match today, that one win is just a win,” said coach Brandon Rosenthal. “I told them we had to put strings of wins together. It’s nice to have a win against such a good opponent.”

The Lady Bisons came out in the first set to win, not letting Tennessee Tech take the lead even once. With an overwhelming amount of kills, the Lipscomb front row quickly shut down the Golden Eagles 25-16.

After falling behind by 2 in the beginning of the second set, the Lady Bisons took control once again. With Erin Pierce and junior transfer Meghan Hinemeyer each pounding 5 kills in the set, the Lady Bisons put together another set victory of 25-17.

Lipscomb was behind Tech only twice in the third set, breaking loose after a 18-18 tie with four straight kills from Hinemeyer. With 18 assists from junior setter Jake Pease, a member of the Atlantic Sun Preseason All Conference Team, the Lady Bisons closed out the match with a set score of 25-22.

Hinemeyer helped the Lady Bisons to their second win of the season with a total of 14 kills for a .483 hitting percentage in the match. Pease had 41 assists in the match. A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, Alex Kelly, contributed once again with 11 kills for a hitting percentage of .231. Freshman Kaycee Green made a strong showing with 9 kills and a .368 hitting percentage in the match

“It’s awesome to have so many options to set to,” said Rosenthal. “To be able to watch Jake, who did a fantastic job distributing the ball, it was great. A lot of the credit has to go to Jake.

“I’m really proud of Meghan and Kaycee. They both stepped up and played to the levels they are capable of playing. There is no doubt those two are going to be a deadly combo for the rest of the year.”
 
With their second win of the day, the Lady Bisons brought their record to a prefect 2-0, while the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech fall to 0-2.

The Lady Bisons next take on host University of Tennessee tomorrow at 1:30pm CT in their final game of the tournament. 

“It’s a big arena, a big stage, and a big team,” said Rosenthal. “It’s what this team has been working for and these girls are ready.”
