Stefan Caulfield joined Charles Morrow’s staff as a graduate assistant in May 2011. He will be in charge of the goalkeepers for the Bisons, as well as adding to the program’s marketing efforts and summer soccer camp administrator.
Caulfield comes to Lipscomb from Virginia Tech, where he was a varsity netminder from 2006-09. He appeared in 19 matches, making 15 starts for the Hokies. During his career, Caulfield stopped 70 of 101 shots faced, earning four victories for Virginia Tech.
Away from the collegiate pitch, Caulfield was a regular for the Ottawa Fury of the USL Premier Development League, as well as the Canadian U20 squad in 2005 and 2006.
Caulfield was a standout in the classroom during his time in Blacksburg as well, posting a 3.7 grade point average and Dean’s List honors. In 2009, he received his degree in Business Management from Virginia Tech’s Pamplin College of Business.
This is not the first time Caulfield will roam the sidelines as a coach. In addition to a stint as an assistant at Giles County (Va.) High school, he was an instructor for the Hokie Soccer Academy and the Hearts Azzurri Soccer Club. He was also the keeper coach for Power Soccer – one of the most well-respected club program’s in Canada.
After graduating from Virginia Tech, Caulfield went to work in Canada for a leading manufacturing company as a supervisor and analyst. He also continued playing at a high level, competing in the semi-professional Canadian Soccer League.
Caulfield really gets out in the community, as well. He spoke at schools all across Canada about the positives of sports (specifically soccer) as a lifestyle choice and about being an athlete. While at Virginia Tech, Caulfield was active in the Special Olympics.
Stefan is the son of Ron and Helen Caulfield, and was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He played club soccer for Hearts Azzurri and attended Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. While at Lipscomb, he will be studying Financial Services and Sport Management as part of his MBA.
