Benton Reed begins his first year on Lipscomb’s cross country and track & field coaching staffs. He is an assistant coach for distance and is the Operations Coordinator.
Reed joined the staff after being a volunteer assistant in the fall of 2013. He assisted the men’s and women’s distance programs, helping the women win their third straight Atlantic Sun Cross Country title and the men their first ever A-Sun Cross Country Championship.
Before moving back to Nashville, Reed served as an assistant coach at The University of the South, in Sewanee, Tenn.
During his time with the Tigers, the men’s and women’s programs improved dramatically. The women’s cross country team matched the highest finish in school history in conference. He coached eight all-conference men and women in events ranging from the 800 meters to the 10,000 meters.
Reed was also active in recruiting, helping the program bring in one of the best recruiting classes in years.
As an athlete Reed competed for Lipscomb, and was a member of coach Bill Taylor’s first recruiting class in 2008. He served as a team captain for three years.
He also served on the Spiritual Direction Team through the years and was one of the leaders on the team mission trip to Belize in 2011.
He graduated from Lipscomb in 2012 with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Corporate Management.
Reed holds a USTFCCCA Program Management & Technical Coaching Certification.
A native of Scottsboro, Ala., he is married to a former Lipscomb distance runner, Emily (Longden). They live in Nashville with their dog, Dakota.
