JACKSONVILLE, Fla. _ The Lady Bisons split an Atlantic Sun doubleheader Sunday afternoon, winning the opener 6-3 and losing the nightcap 5-0 at the Jacksonville Softball Cumplex.
It was the fifth consecutive A-Sun doubleheader on the road for the Lady Bisons.
The Lady Bisons used three hits from Julia Davidson and a three-run home run from Ashley Villalpando to win game one. Davidson scored three times and had one double. The Lady Bisons pounded nine hits in the game.
The Lady Bisons spotted Jacksonville a three-run lead with one two in the first inning and one on the third.
In the fourth inning the Lady Bisons started chipping away at the lead. Davidson led off with a double to right center. Jessica Wilson reached base on an error by the second baseman which allowed Davidson to score.
The Lady Bisons exploded in the sixth inning. This time around Davidson opened the inning with a single to left field. Wilson moved Davidson to second with a sacrifice bunt down the first base line. Sara Meek singled to second base moving Davidson to third. Heather Collins singled through the left side to score Davidson. Villalpando then slammed her three-run homer to left center.
In the seventh the Lady Bisons picked up an insurance run when Davidson, who reached base on her third hit of the day, scored on an error by the shortstop.
Meek scattered six hits and gave up three runs, two earned. She walked two and struck out 12.
In game two Davidson continued to swing a hot bat with two singles. Meek had the only other hit for the Lady Bisons.
Allison Tyree started on the mound for the Lady Bisons. She gave up five runs, two earned, on five hits. She walked one batter and did not record a strikeout. Meek replaced Tyree after she had faced three batters in the second inning.
Meek pitched shutout softball for the final five innings, allowing only one hit. She walked three and struck out seven.
The Lady Bisons are 12-24, 3-7 in the A-Sun. Jacksonville is 21-27, 5-5 in the conference.
