Mother Nature provided the rain, but the Lady Bisons softball team provided the thunder.
In two games with Mercer at chilly, rain-drenched Draper Diamond Friday night the Lady Bisons blasted six home runs. They won the rain-delayed first game 10-1 in five innings, but lost the second game 5-4.
Freshman shortstop Abby Keese entered the game in a four-way tie for the Atlantic Sun Conference home run lead with 11. She hit two solo shots in the first game, with one to left field in the second and one to left center in the fourth.
Keese was three-for-three at the plate with a game-high four runs batted in. Her third hit was a two-RBI single to left in the third inning.
Freshman pitcher Christen Campbell helped herself out with a three-run home run to left in the third and a solo shot to left in the fourth inning.
Junior first baseman Heather Collins also added a two-run home run to right center in the fourth.
Mercer scored one run in the second inning. Campbell, 15-7, held Mercer to four hits. She struck out five and walked three.
In game two Mercer struck first with three first inning runs off of Lady Bisons starter Christy Grisham. They added one run in the second and one in the third.
The Lady Bisons fought back scoring two runs in the fourth. Catcher Jennifer Allsup brought in both runs on a single.
In the sixth the Lady Bisons added one run as right fielder Julia Davidson pounded a solo home run to center field.
The Lady Bisons continued their rally in the seventh with Leigh Little reaching based on a two-out single to third base. Collins doubled to left center to score Little to cut the lead to one. Collins was left stranded as Kellie Sirus struck out to end the game. Little, Collins and Davidson each had two hits for the Lady Bisons who finished the game with nine.
Grisham started game two for the Lady Bisons, allowing six hits and five runs, four earned, in 2 2/3 innings. She walked two and struck out one.
Campbell finished the game for the Lady Bisons. She shut down Mercer for 4 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and striking out three.
The Lady Bisons are 23-19 overall, 8-5-1 in the A-Sun. Mercer fell to 8-36, 1-5 in the conference.
Saturday afternoon at 2 Kennesaw State is scheduled to visit Draper Diamond for a doubleheader.
