The Lipscomb Lady Bisons challenged Atlantic Coast Conference power Florida State, dropping game one 5-1 and the nightcap 11-3.
The games were played Tuesday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Fla.
Alaina Jacobson opened game one on the mound. She scattered five hits and gave up one run. Christen Campbell, 6-5, came on in relief and pitched three innings. She gave up seven hits and four runs, all earned.
Florida State scored one run in both the first and second innings. They scored two in the third and one in the fourth.
The Lady Bisons recorded only three hits. Campbell and Rottler each had hits along with Simons.
Tiffany McDonald pitched four shutout innings for Florida State, allowing one hit. Melissa May closed out the game, giving up two hits and one run along with two strikeouts. McDonald improved to 7-1 with the win.
Kim Jacobson, 2-7, started game two for the Lady Bisons. She pitched two innings, allowing five hits and six runs, all earned. Alaina Jacobson returned to the mound and threw two innings in relief. She gave up five hits and five runs, all earned.
Florida State scored two runs in the first, four in the second and five in the third.
The Lady Bisons scored all three of their runs in the third inning.
With one out Rottler reached base on an error by the third baseman and moved to second. MacKenzie Tucker moved Rottler to third with a bunt single. Lauren Dortwegt made it to first on a fielder's choice that scored Rottler and moved Tucker to third.
Simons singled to left field to send Tucker across the plate. Dortwegt scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Abby Keese.
Sarah Hamilton, 6-1, started for Florida State and picked up the win. She allowed two hits and three runs, none earned, in three innings. Terese Gober closed out the game pitching the final two innings. She gave up one hit and no runs, but struck out four.
The Lady Bisons, 11-14 overall, 3-1 in the conference, will return home Wednesday and begin preparing for an Atlantic Sun Conference series Saturday in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Florida State is 23-9 overall.
