Kellie Sirus slammed two home runs and drove in four runs on four hits as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons swept Stetson Thursday in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader.

“For Kellie it has been a matter of tweaking a few things at the plate,” said Lady Bisons coach Kristin Peck. “She chose good pitches to swing at and got her bat through the ball on her hits.”

The Lady Bisons came back in the seventh inning to win game one to win 3-2 and then took game two 5-3. The games were played at Patricia Wilson Field in DeLand, Fla., the site of the Atlantic Sun Softball Tournament May 7-9.

“We hit well,” said Lipscomb coach Kristin Peck. “We were a little better in game two than in game one.

“In game one we hit a lot like we did early in the season. We weren’t getting any clutch hits. In the second there was more of a flow to our hitting.”

In game one the Lady Bisons put the first run on the board in the fourth inning. Mollie Mitchell singled to left field and moved to second when Caroline Mason grounded out to third base. Vanessa Medina struck out. With two down Mackenzie Tucker hit a single through the right side of the field to send Mitchell home.

Stetson took the lead with two runs in the fifth.

With one out in the seventh Lauren Dortwegt singled up the middle with one out. Courtney Billington advanced Dortwegt to second with a sacrifice bunt. Sirus then slammed a home run to left field for both the tying and winning runs.

The Lady Bisons had nine hits. Both Sirus and Mitchell each had two hits.

Whitney Kiihnl won her 15th game of the season. She gave up four hits while walking three and striking out seven in seven innings.

In game two the Lady Bisons scored one run each in the first, second and third innings. Stetson fought back and tied the game with three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3.

Christen Campbell singled up the middle in the first inning to score Sirus who had singled to right field.

In the second Mason led off with a single to left field and went to second on a fielding error in the outfield. She went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Tucker grounded out to the third baseman.

With two outs in the third Keese hit a solo home run to left field. It was the 19th time this season that Keese has driven in a run with two outs. She is ranked sixth in the Atlantic Sun in that category.

With the score knotted in the fifth Billington singled to second base with one out. Sirus connected and drove the ball over the left field fence for her second two-run home run of the game.

Alaina Jacobson picked up her ninth win of the season. She held Stetson to five hits. She walked three and struck out three.

“Overall, Alaina threw a good game,” said Peck. “She used her defense which is her style. She has her pitches working and made their batters swing at good pitches late in the count.”

Once again the Lady Bisons finished with nine hits. Sirus, Keese and Mason each had two hits.

“We hit well,” said Lipscomb coach Kristin Peck. “We were a little better in game two than in game one.

“In game one we hit a lot like we did early in the season. We weren’t getting any clutch hits. In the second there was more of a flow to our hitting.”

Sirus has 13 multiple-RBI games, tops on the team. She has eight home runs. Keese leads the team with nine homers.

Stetson slipped to 20-29, 3-15 in the A-Sun.

The Lady Bisons, 34-11, 12-4 in the conference, have the day off Friday before heading to Fort Myers, Fla., to face Florida Gulf Coast Saturday.
