NASHVILLE, Tenn. – With the regular season right around the corner, a couple of Lady Bison softball players garnered some recognition from CollegeSportsMadness.com, with spots on the website’s First-Team All-Conference preseason squad.
Senior pitcher Whitney Kiihnl and junior outfielder Caroline Mason were both named to the first team. Mason was named a first-team All-Atlantic Sun selection last season, while Kiihnl was a second-teamer in 2011.
Kiihnl, a three-time All-Conference selection and 2010 third-team All-American, went 20-11 with a 1.69 ERA and 328 strike outs in 211.1 innings pitched last season. She was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament team for the third consecutive year as well.
Mason led the Lady Bison in average (.307), home runs (nine), doubles (10) and hits (43) in her second season with the team. The Mount Juliet native started 48 games, driving in 25 runs while hitting mostly clean-up in the Lady Bison batting order.
The Atlantic Sun preseason All-Conference team will be announced next week. Fans can vote for the Preseason Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, the 2012 A-Sun Regular Season Champion and the Atlantic Sun Softball Championship winner until 9 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday, Jan. 25 and the winners will be announced on the conference preseason release.
Kiihnl is on the ballot for Pitcher of the Year, while junior transfer Kelsey Cartwright is up for Player of the Year. Be sure to vote for Lipscomb to win the conference regular season and postseason championship as well.
The Lady Bison start the regular season, Feb. 10, at the Mardi Gras Tournament in Mobile, Ala. Lipscomb will be home Feb. 18-19 for the Lady Bison Round Robin against Samford and Butler.
