NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb University’s Rena’ Cothron earned the Softball Player of the Week from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday March 30-April 5.
Cothron batted .750 (9-for-12) with two doubles, one home run and eight RBIs over five games for the Bisons, who swept a doubleheader against UAB and won all three games in a weekend series versus East Tennessee State.
The senior catcher was 3-for-3 in the first game versus UAB and posted a double with one RBI and a walk in the second contest against the Blazers.
In the three-game series versus ETSU, the Hendersonville, Tenn., native doubled, drove in two runs and walked twice in the series opener and collected five RBIs, including a grand slam, in the second contest against the Bucs.
Cothron added two more hits in the series finale, upping her batting average to .369 this season, second-best on the squad, with nine doubles, three homers and 24 RBIs in 40 games.
Lipscomb hosts Mercer University in a three-game series this weekend.
