The Lady Bisons played their final games ever at the Lipscomb Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Bisons lost game one of the double header 10-2 and won game two 2-1. The games were the final ones at the site that was once Onion Dell and home to the Lipscomb Baseball program since the late 1940's. The Lipscomb baseball program played at the site until 1991 when they moved Dugan Field to the current location. In 1996 the Lady Bison softball team began playing at the site. The Lady Bisons will play their remaining games for the 2005 season at Crockett Park in Brentwood. Construction on the Lady Bisons new softball complex is set to begin in May/June of this summer and be ready for the 2006 season. The field will be located about 200 yards south of the current field near the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
In game one shortstop Candice McWherter went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one run and drove in one run. McWherter now has a batting average of .278. Second baseman Leigh Little went 2-for-3 and scored one of the Lady Bisons two runs. Little now has a batting average of .375 on the season.
Right-handed pitcher Sara Meek started for the Lady Bisons in game one and gave up nine hits and seven earned runs while striking out three batters. Meek is now 3-4 on the season with a earned run average of 3.83. Right-handed pitcher Kim Jacobson relieved Meek in the 7th inning and gave up two hits and two earned runs.
The Lady Bisons scored two runs off of eight hits and committed four errors in game one. The Lady Raiders scored 10 runs off of 11 hits and committed three errors.
The Lady Bisons rallied together and won game two 2-1. The Lady Raiders had an early lead after scoring the first run of the game in the top of the 2nd inning. The Lady Bisons would respond with a two run 5th inning and hold onto the lead.
Starting right-handed pitcher Danielle Catalano pitched her first complete game of the season and gave up five hits and one earned run as she fanned six batters. Catalano also picked up her first win of the season and is now 1-0 with an earned run average of 3.23.
Offensively in game two Little led the way going 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in both of the Lady Bisons two runs. Pitching in offensively was Jessica Wilson, Heather Collins, Jennifer Cannon, and Alysha Forsythe who each had one hit in the game.
The Lady Bisons scored two runs off of six hits and committed one error in game two. The Lady Raiders scored one run off of five hits and committed one error.
The Lady Bisons will travel to Cape Girardeau, Missouri for a double header against Southeast Missouri State on March 8 at 2:00 p.m.
