Lady Bisons Split With Western Kentucky

The Lady Bisons split with Western Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon winning game one 2-1, and losing game two 7-6 at Crockett Park. Both games went to extra innings.

In game one Heather Collins drove in Julia Davidson from third base to give the Lady Bisons a 2-1 victory. Jessica Wilson sacrificed bunted Davidson from second to third base.

Starting right-handed pitcher Danielle Catalano threw her fourth complete game of the season as she gave up eight hits and one earned run while striking out seven batters. Catalano is now 4-0 on the season and has an earned run average of .214.

Leigh Little and Jessica Wilson each had two hits in game one. Little went 2-for-4 and scored one run. Little increased her batting average to .421 after going 4-for-8 in both games. Wilson was 2-for-3 at the plate and hit her seventh double of the season and is now batting .291.

The Lady Bisons scored two runs off of six hits and committed zero errors. The Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky scored one run off of five hits and committed one error. The Lady Bisons and Hilltoppers each left seven runners on base for the game.

In game two the Hilltoppers came back after being down 6-3 to sneak away with a 7-6 win. The Lady Bisons jumped out to a 6-3 lead after a four run 5th inning.

In the 5th inning, Heather Collins hit a three-run homer that bounced off the left field wall and out of the park. It was Collins first home run of the season. Candice McWherter then hit a single to center field to score Jennifer Cannon from second base. Cannon reached second after lacing a double to right center field. Collins was 2-for-3 at the plate and increased her batting average to .357. McWherter was 1-for-2 at the plate and is now batting .296.

Starting right-handed pitcher Allison Tyree threw for 4 and 1/3 innings in game two and gave up eight hits and one earned run. Sara Meek relieved Tyree in the 5th inning and threw for 2 and 2/3 innings and gave up five hits and zero earned runs. Catalano closed out the game and pitched 1 inning and gave up one hit and one run.

The Lady Bisons scored six runs off of six hits and committed six errors. The Hilltoppers scored seven runs off of 14 hits and committed one error. The Lady Bisons left seven runners on base, the Hilltoppers left 10 runners on base.

The Lady Bisons and the Hilltoppers are each 10-8 on the season.

The Lady Bisons will travel to Clarksville, Tennessee to play a double header against Austin Peay State University on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
