Lady Bisons Split With Troy In Softball

Lipscomb's Lady Bisons beat Troy 1-0 in eight innings in game one, but lost game two 6-0 in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader played Friday evening.

The opening game was the first conference defeat for Troy this season.

The games, the first under interim head coach Cheryl Smith, were played at Tennessee State University due to field conditions at Crockett Park .

In game one Lipscomb starter Danielle Catalano held Troy to only five hits. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Catalano raised her record to 6-7.

In the eighth inning Kate Richards slammed a double down the left field line. The next two batters were out, setting the stage for Jessica Wilson who lined a shot to left center to score Richards with the game winner.

Jocelyn McCallum pitched the opener for Troy , allowing only three hits and striking out nine while walking four.

In game two Troy pitchers Kacie Flinn and Michelle Grinage combined to hold the Lady Bisons to only five hits in a 6-0 win.

Flinn stuck out two batters and allowed four hits. Grinage gave up one hit, but did not record a strikeout.

Troy scored one run in the second, four in the third and one in the sixth. Allison Tyree pitched five innings for the Lady Bisons, allowing eight hits and five runs, one earned. Catalano came back to pitch the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits and striking out two.

Troy is 31-16, 7-1 in the A-Sun. Lipscomb is 16-17, 3-3 in the conference.
