Lipscomb softball coach Kristin Peck has announced the signing of pitcher Christy Grisham.
Grisham, from Robinson, Texas, has been a star for both her Robinson High School team and her Texas Hawks Gold travel team based in Houston. Texas.
In 2005 she was the District 17 3-A Offensive Most Valuable Player and a Super Centex honorable mention selection. In 2004 she was the Outstanding Pitcher in District 17 3-A and a Super Centex second team member. As a freshman in 2003 she was selected second team All-District 17 3-A.
As a junior at Robinson High School she batted .379 with a .484 slugging percentage and a .380 on-base percentage. She also slammed three home runs and drove in 23 runs.
Her pitching record was 12-5 with a 1.91 earned run average. She struck out 140 batters in 92 innings.
"Christy is one of the most savvy softball players I know," said Robinson High School softball coach Vicki Johnson. "Her experience and talent on the softball field overshadows that of her opponents. I have known Christy for 10 years. I admire her grit and determination to be the top player.
"I have had the privilege of coaching Christy from her sophomore year through her senior year. She is an easily coached player who enjoys a challenge and even more so enjoys a victory. Her competitive edge drives her to excel, but her respect for the game and teammates keeps her a team player."
As a player of the Texas Hawks Gold Fall ASA Travel Team she batted .285 with a .429 slugging percentage and a .355 on-base percentage. Her fielding percentage was .914.
On the mound she posted a 4-1 record with 21 strikeouts in 24 innings.
"From a coaching standpoint Christy is the epitome of the complete ballplayer," said Dick Haskel, coach of Texas Hawks Gold. "The tangibles are the visible aspects of her game _ the ability to pitch a softball with a velocity in the low to medium 60 miles per hour range, the ability to hit the ball with power to all fields, the ability to play several defensive positions and play them well, plus the effort exerted on each and every play.
"The intangibles to me are equally important and consist of her inner drive for excellence, her commitment to attaining the very top of her skill level, her competitive nature, her work ethic and her team attitude."
Grisham is known for her athletic versatility. She has played every position on the softball field. She is also talented enough to have been named First Team All-District 17 3-A as a freshman in volleyball. She was also a regional qualifier in the pole vault as a freshman.
Grisham plans to major in marketing and advertising at Lipscomb. She is the daughter of Jamie and Don Grisham.
"Lipscomb is a small school with good Christian values in a nice city," said Grisham. "The softball program is really on its way with a new and excited coach. I also liked the academics and the quality of their business school."
