Peck era begins in softball

Snow may be flying, but it's softball season for the Lady Bisons.

First-year coach Kristin Peck's first games didn't go as she planned with the Lady Bisons losing 3-0 and 9-4 Sunday afternoon at Birmingham-Southern in Birmingham, Ala.

In the opener a three-run third inning was all Birmingham-Southern needed for the victory. Sara Meek was on the mound for the Lady Bisons. She gave up six hits and also struck out six. Kristina Villavicencio gave up only four hits and struck out four for the win.

In game two the scored was tied 2-2 going into the fourth inning. A grand slam by Birmingham-Southern's Brooke Reed broke the game open. In the fourth. Birmingham-Southern also added two more runs in the inning to take an 8-2 lead.

The Lady Bisons responded with two runs in the top of the sixth. Birmingham-Southern scored the ninth run on a bases-loaded walk in sixth. Julia Davidson slammed a solo home run for the Lady Bisons in the fourth inning.

Allison Tyree started for the Lady Bisons pitching 3.1 innings and allowing four runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Erin Haggard started for Birmingham-Southern, but Rachel Sanifel picked up the victory in relief.
