The Lady Bisons finished the day the way they started it _ with a win.
In the final game of the day in the Breast Cancer Strikeout Classic at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro the Lady Bisons beat Tennessee-Martin 8-3.
"That was a fun game," said Lipscomb coach Kristin Peck. "It was definitely a total team win. I know people toss that around a lot but it truly was."
Peck kept the scorekeeper busy with changes during the game. She used three pitchers. Allison Tyree started and pitched 2.1 innings for the win. She allowed four hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out one.
Kim Jacobson followed and threw 1.2 innings. She gave up a pair of hits, but no runs. Sara Meek closed the game out. She shut down Tennessee-Martin for three innings on three hits. She struck out four, a season high, and also walked one.
"Sara came in and really had some pop on the ball," said Peck. "It was like she was trying to prove something.
"Allison started strong, but they started stringing together some hits. We decided we needed to give them a different look. Kim had done a good job against Loyola so we brought her back in."
Pitching was not the only position where changes were made. Doe to some injury issues several changes were made defensively to begin the fifth inning. Niki Bails moved from center field to catcher. Julia Davidson switched from third base to center field. Jacobson moved from pitcher to third base.
With two outs and a runner on base Davidson made one of the most outstanding defensive plays of the game.
"Julia robbed a UT-Martin player of a two-run homer," said Peck. "She went back and made the catch and kept going through a temporary fence they had set up around the outfield. That play really fired us up again. We came in and scored two more runs."
Peck pointed to the defensive play of Heather Collins at first base.
"Even with all of the changes we had some great defensive plays," said Peck.
Tennessee-Martin jumped out to a 3-0 lead with one run in the second inning and two in the third.
The Lady Bisons exploded for six runs in bottom of the fourth after the first two batters were out. Jessica Wilson singled to center. Meek, pinch-hitting for Alysha Forsythe, singled to center. Ashley Villalpando reached base on an error by the second baseman. Wilson scored.
Kim Richards singled up the middle scoring Meek. Falon Catalano singled to center sending Villalpando across the plate prompting Tennessee-Martin to change pitchers.
Leigh Little greeted Kara Harper with a single to right that scored Richards. Bails walked. Davidson drove in Little and Catalano on a single to left to close out the scoring in the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth Meek singled to center with one out. Villalpando walked. Richards was safe on an error by the first baseman which also allowed Meek to score. Catalano grounded out to the pitcher on a sacrifice that scored Villalpando.
The Lady Bisons close out their play in the Classic Sunday morning at 9 when they face Syracuse.
