BUIES CREEK, N.C. _ Lipscomb's Lady Bisons softball team won its first Atlantic Sun game of the season as part of a split of a doubleheader with Campbell University.
The Lady Bisons won the first game 3-1 and lost the nightcap 2-1 Thursday night. It is the second of five straight A-Sun road doubleheaders for the Lady Bisons. They travel to Boiling Springs. N.C. Saturday to face Gardner-Webb.
In the first game at Eakes Athletic Complex the Lady Bisons scored one run in both the first and second innings and another solo run in the seventh.
In the first inning Niki Bails reached base on a one-out single to left field. Julia Davidson walked. Both then moved up one base on passed ball. Heather Collins walked to fill the bases. Jessica Wilson drove Bails home with a single to left field.
Alysha Forsythe started the second inning by being hit by a pitch. Kate Richards moved Forsythe to second with a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher. Leigh Little then singled up the middle to send Forsythe to third. Forsythe scored on a fielding error by the second baseman.
In the seventh inning Ashley Villalpando reached base on a fielding miscue by the third baseman. Falon Catalano entered the game as the runner for Villalpando. Catalano stole second and advanced to third on a single through the right side by Richards. Little hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Catalano.
In game two the Lady Bisons spotted Campbell a run in the fourth inning, but came back to tie the game in the top of the seventh. That set the stage for extra innings with Campbell winning in the bottom of the eighth.
Richards opened the seventh inning by reaching base on an error by the third baseman. Little moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt to the catcher. Richards went to third on a wild pitch. Bails scored Richards with a single through the right side.
In game one Lipscomb's Sara Meek scattered four hits and gave up one earned run. She struck out eight and walked two in seven innings.
The Lady Bisons also only had four hits in game one.
Meek also pitched game two, allowing only three hits while striking out six and walking three.
The Lady Bisons countered with seven hits, but couldn't put enough runs together. Davidson and Little each had two hits. Davidson had one double.
The Lady Bisons are 10-19, 1-3 in the conference. Campbell fell to 20-18, 2-2 in the A-Sun.
