Lipscomb softball adds player from Illinois

Lipscomb University softball coach Kristin Peck has announced the signing of Lauren Dortwegt from Downers Grove, Ill.

Dortwegt, 5-foot-5, lettered three seasons with the varsity softball team at Downers Grove North High School. She was an All-Conference team member in 2005 and 2006. She was also a Second Team All-State selection by the Chicago Sun-Times in 2005. In 2005 and 2006 she was named Most Valuable Player on her high school team.

She also has played on successful travel softball teams. In 1998 she was a member of the championship team in the NSA State Tournament. She played for the Chicago ASA Metro Championship team in 2004 in the 16-Under division. In 2004 in the 16-Under division her team finished ninth in the ASA Nationals Tournament.

Dortwegt also is a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society and was a member of the Illinois Music Educators Association 2006 All-State Band as an oboe player. She also plays English horn, saxophone and piano.

"I decided to attend Lipscomb University because I felt comfortable and welcome in such a friendly environment, and because I have been given an opportunity to continue playing softball while getting a good education."

She is the daughter of Karen and Robert Dortwegt. She plans to major in elementary education.
