Lipscomb's Lady Bisons softball team opens the season Sunday afternoon at Draper Diamond with a number of new faces.

The Lady Bisons will play the Western Carolina Catamounts in a doubleheader beginning at 1.

Coach Kristin Peck., starting her second season as head coach, welcomed 11 newcomers to the team including nine freshmen, one sophomore and one junior college transfer.

Returning for the Lady Bisons are outfielder Leigh Little (.311 BA), outfielder Julia Davidson (.309 BA), first baseman Heather Collins (.237 BA), catcher Niki Bails (.221 BA) and pitcher Kim Jacobson (4.08 ERA, 2-9 record).

The Catamounts opened their season Saturday afternoon at Tennessee State University, dropping both ends of a doubleheader.

Tennessee State came back in the seventh to force the first game into extra innings, winning 4-3 in nine innings.

In game two Tennessee State prevailed 6-1.

The Catamounts are coached by Christine Hornak, who is in her first season as head coach of the program.

In 2006 the Catamounts finished 41-20 and were first in the Southern Conference with a 16-4 record. They return 10 letter winners from that team.
