Lady Bisons hit four home runs in second game to split with Austin Peay

Nashville, TN - The Lady Bison softball team (15-20 overall, 6-4 A-Sun) split the doubleheader with Austin Peay this evening at Draper Diamond.

The Lady Bisons struggled in game one of the doubleheader losing 7-0 but were able to take four hits away from the Lady Govs. Sophomore center fielder Lauren Dortwegt, sophomore designated player/third baseman Kellie Sirus, senior first baseman Heather Collins and senior left fielder Sara Simons reached picked up a hit. Dortwegt picked up a stolen base to bring her season total to nine.

In the second game, the Lady Bisons wasted no time getting back on track winning the game 12-1 in five innings.

Sara Simons started the scoring with a solo shot to left field two batters into the game.

Three batters latter senior Heather Collins hit a fly ball to centerfield that the Lady Gov centerfielder dropped to allow Collins to make it to third base and Abby Keese and Kellie Sirus to make it home. Collins would score on a sacrifice fly to center field by third baseman Christen Campbell.

The second inning would prove just as productive with Simons hitting an RBI single to left field and Kellie Sirus hitting a grand slam to over the centerfield fence. It was her second home run of the season.

Heather Collins would follow Sirus with a home run of her own.

Sara Simons would close out the Lady Bisons scoring in the third inning with two run shot over the fence.

Lauren Dortwegt picked up one more stolen base to bring her season total to 10 which is one short of last seasons total.

"I think the players were a little fired up after the first game and they came out and did what they needed to do," said head coach Kristen Peck .

"Our goal is the conference championship and I told the team after the game that if we want to do something that we've never done before we got do things we've never down before. I think we did that in the second game."

The Lady Bisons close out their home stand at Draper Diamond this weekend when they take on East Tennessee State at 5 p.m. Friday in a rematch of their A-Sun Tournament loss last year, and Campbell Saturday at 2 p.m. All of the action will be carried on ASun.TV.

This weekend the Lady Bisons will also celebrate Alumni and Family Weekend at Draper Diamond with activities scheduled for both Friday and Saturday's games.
