The Lipscomb softball team made a strong statement for the top seed in the 2008 Atlantic Sun Tournament with two big shutouts over archrival Belmont at Aquinas Field Wednesday.

The Lady Bisons won the first game of the doubleheader 6-0 with senior Kim Jacobson in the circle. Jacobson only allowed four hits on the way to her second shutout of the season.

Lipscomb batters tallied nine hits in the game with senior first baseman Heather Collins, sophomore right fielder Kellie Sirus, and sophomore third baseman Christen Campbell getting two each.

Sophomore Abigail Craig started the scoring early for the Lady Bisons, pinch running for Collins in the second inning and scoring on an RBI single by senior catcher Jennifer Allsup.

Sirus added a home run over the left center fence in the third inning to make the score 2-0.

The Lady Bisons scored three more runs in the fourth inning off two successive doubles by sophomore centerfielder Lauren Dortwegt and Jennifer Allsup.

Campbell added one more run in the top of the seventh inning.

Sophomore Alaina Jacobson earned the game two win for the Lady Bisons striking out four Bruins on the way to the 1-0 victory and her fourth shutout of the season.

Campbell's double in the fourth inning would score pinch runner Abigail Craig for the only run of the game.

The Lipscomb softball team is on an unprecedented 11 game winning streak and has shutout four of their last six opponents.

The Lady Bisons are 26-21 overall and 15-5 in the Atlantic Sun. They close out the conference portion of their schedule on Saturday when they take on USC Upstate at 4 p.m. at Draper Diamond.
