Saturday, February 14, 2009Christen Campbell did everything that was needed to guarantee a win.
She threw the first no-hitter of the season Saturday for the Lady Bisons in a 1-0 win over Louisiana Tech Saturday morning in the second day of the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette, La. She drove in the only run of the game to seal the victory.
Campbell, a junior who also plays third base, struck out four and walked only two for the victory.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning. Kellie Sirus started the inning with a lead-off walk. She was thrown out at second on a bunt attempt by Abby Keese. Caroline Mason struck out, but Keese, who reached on the fielder’s choice, was able to move to second on a wild pitch.
Campbell singled up the middle to score Keese. Mollie Mitchell popped up to the second baseman to close out the inning.
Campbell led the Lady Bisons with two hits. Mason added a double. Courtney Billington and Katie Haab each added singles.
The Lady Bisons were scheduled to play Nicholls State starting Saturday at 2 p.m.
