Lady Bisons sweep Austin Peay to extend win streak to four games
Good things came in threes for the Lady Bisons softball team.

Wednesday afternoon the Lady Bisons swept Austin Peay in a doubleheader by identical scores of 3-0 at Lady Govs Field in Clarksville, Tenn. The Lady Bisons used 14 hits, even in each game, and also took advantage of five Austin Peay errors for the victories.

It was the fourth victory in a row for the Lady Bisons. They have won seven of their last eight.

In game one the Lady Bisons scored one run in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

In the fourth inning Kellie Sirus led off with a double to right center. Abby Keese followed with s single to left field. Caroline Mason hit a sacrifice fly to center field.

In the sixth Sirus started the inning off in a big way with a home run to center field.

Mollie Mitchell opened the seventh inning with a double to right field. Mitchell advanced to third on a wild pitch. She scored when Lauren Dortwegt put down a bunt single.

Freshman Whitney Kiihnl, 4-1, threw a complete game shutout, her first of the season. She scattered three hits, struck out eight and walked five. Kiihnl leads the Lady Bisons in both appearances with seven and in starts with six. She has struck out 41 batters.

The Lady Bisons scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning in game two.

Courtney Billington opened the inning by reaching base on an error by the shortstop. Sirus sacrificed Billington to second. A wild pitch moved Billington to third base. Keese singled to send Billington across the plate.

Mackenzie Tucker entered the game as a pinch-runner for Keese. Mason singled up the middle, moving Tucker to second base. Christen Campbell doubled left center, driving Tucker home. Campbell scored the final run on an error by the third baseman.

Mason, Campbell and Billington each had two hits in game two.

Alaina Jacobson, 4-1, threw her first shutout of the season. She gave up four hits and walked two on the way to the win.

The Lady Bisons travel to Charleston, S.C., this weekend for the Low Country Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern Friday and Saturday.
