Lady Bisons earn fourth consecutive shutout
The Lady Bisons softball team recorded its fourth straight shutout, blanking North Carolina-Wilmington 8-0 in the second game of the first round of the Low Country Invitational at Buccaneer Field in Charleston, S.C.

The game was called after five innings.

The Lady Bisons scored two runs in the first, five in the second and one in the third.

Center fielder Lauren Dortwegt, the leadoff hitter for the Lady Bisons, had a season high three hits, including one double. She was the only Lady Bisons player to get more than one hit.

Second baseman Courtney Billington, shortstop Abby Keese and third baseman Christen Campbell each had two RBI.

Right fielder Caroline Mason also had a double for the Lady Bisons. They collected nine hits against two North Carolina-Wilmington pitchers.

In the first inning Dortwegt led off with a double down the right field line. After Billington struck out Kellie Sirus singled to left. Keese hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Dortwegt. Sirus crossed the plate on a two-out double by Mason.

In the second catcher Mollie Mitchell singled to right and Mackenzie Tucker reach base on a bunt single. Dortwegt singled to load the bases. Billington then singled to right field to bring in Mitchell and Tucker.

Sirus was hit by a pitch to once again fill the bases. Keese hit her second sacrifice fly of the game, this time to center, to score Dortwegt. Campbell singled to center to score Billington and Sirus.

Mitchell reached base on a scoring error to start the third inning and worked her way around to third. Dortwegt singled to right to send Mitchell home.

Alaina Jacobson raised her record to 5-1 with the win. She pitched 4.2 innings before the game was called. She allowed four hits and struck out two.

The Lady Bisons are 11-3. North Carolina-Wilmington slipped to 1-11.

The Lady Bisons start Saturday bright and early with a 7:30 game with North Carolina A&T.
