Lady Bisons beat Murray St. for second time
The Lady Bisons continued to add to their win column Friday night with a 9-2 win over Murray State in the Lady Bison Classic at Draper Diamond.

The win did not start out as easy as Friday’s win over Murray State as the Lady Bisons saw themselves down 2-1 after just two innings.

After a pitching change from Alaina Jacobson to Whitney Kiihnl for the Lady Bisons, Lipscomb was able to hold off Murray State and then add to their side of the scoreboard.

“Murray State did a good job of adjusting to Alaina early,” said head coach Kristin Ryman, “and it wasn’t necessarily anything that Alaina did. But we felt like we needed to go ahead and make a change and make sure that we were keeping things within reach for our hitters.”

After Kiihnl came in, she held Murray State scoreless and struck out nine of the 17 batters she faced.

“In past years we hadn’t really used Whitney in relief a lot,” said Ryman. “This year she’s a different pitcher than she was last year. I thought she was good last year but this year she keeps her composure better and her pitches keep getting better. She brings even more to the table than she did last year.”

Lipscomb hitters really came alive in the fourth inning. Mollie Mitchell led off with a homerun off the scoreboard. Christen Campbell then hit a double of the left-center wall. Mackenzie Tucker then reached on an error. Caroline Mason followed after with a RBI single. Then Bree Thurman came up with an RBI single. Courtney Billington also added a hit to produce another run for the Lady Bisons and pushed the Lady Bisons further in their lead, 6-2.

Abby Keese had home runs in both the fifth and seventh innings, finalizing the score at 9-2.

“Abby had a great night,” said Ryman. “She can cover both sides of the plate well and she’s seeing the ball extremely well right now. Going oppo and then hitting one over left center as well just shows what she can do.”

With Saturday’s wins the Lady Bisons go to 15-1. Murray State falls to 1-9.

Sunday the Lady Bisons face Evansville in their final game of the Lady Bison Classic at 2 p.m. will broadcast it.
