Mitchell drives in three in 4-2 win over Georgia St.
Mollie Mitchell drove in three runs as the Lipscomb Lady Bisons beat host Georgia State 4-2 Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Panther Invitational Sunday afternoon in Atlanta.

It was the second time in the tournament that the Lady Bisons beat Georgia State. Earlier Sunday the Lady Bisons lost a 1-0 game to Memphis.

In the first inning Courtney Billington walked to lead off. With one out Mitchell blasted a shot over the left center field wall at Bob Heck Stadium.

The Lady Bisons added another run in the third. Whitney Kiihnl walked to lead off the inning. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher by Billington. Breanna Thurman reached base on an error by the first baseman which moved Kiihnl to third. Kiihnl scored when Mitchell hit a sacrifice fly to left field.

In the fourth the Lady Bisons struck one more time. Caroline Mason doubled to left center to lead off the inning. She advanced to third on a sac bunt to the pitcher by Vanessa Medina. Mason scored on a wild pitch.

It was the second multi-RBI game for Mitchell this season. Rena’ Cothron with two singles recorded the first multi-hit game of her college career.

The Lady Bisons had five hits in the game off of two Georgia State pitchers.

Kiihnl, 3-4, pitched a complete game. She allowed two hits and two runs, one earned. She struck out 10 and walked three.

The Lady Bisons are 3-7. Georgia State is 5-5.

Georgia State scored a run in the first and another in the fourth.

Memphis 1, Lady Bisons 0

The lone run in the game with Memphis was scored on a home run by Heather Mott in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Memphis pitcher Carly Hummel held the Lady Bisons to two hits.Thurman slammed a double to left center to start the seventh inning, but was not able to score.

Kiihnl singled to left field in the third for the only other hit for the Lady Bisons.

Hummel ran her record to 5-0. She walked one batter and struck out six.

Kiihnl, 2-4, pitched six innings for the Lady Bisons. She also gave up two hits. She walked two and struck out 11. She hit three batters.
