Center fielder Bree Thurman led the Lady Bisons with four hits, including a solo home run to left center to lead off the sixth inning. First baseman Vanessa Medina continued to be a force at the plate with a two-RBI double down the left line in the third inning.
The Lady Bisons finished the tournament, which was played at both Conway and Myrtle Beach, S.C., with a 2-3 record. The win evened the Lady Bisons overall record at 11-11. Coastal Carolina slipped to 14-12.
The Lady Bisons finished with 10 hits, four of them for extra bases. Also connecting for doubles were right fielder Caroline Mason, who finished with two hits; and second baseman Courtney Billington who also had two hits.
Playing as the home team the Lady Bisons scored two runs in the first and two in the third. Coastal Carolina answered with three in the fourth as Michelle Evans hit a solo home run and Chelsea Pineda added a two-run blast..
The Lady Bisons added one run in the fifth to stretch their lead to 5-3. Coastal Carolina added one more in the sixth. Thurman’s home run closed out the game.
Lipscomb pitcher Whitney Kiihnl threw a complete game, raising her record to 9-6. She allowed five hits and four runs while striking out eight and walking three.
The Lady Bisons will open Atlantic Sun competition on the road when they face ETSU in Johnson City at 3 and USC-Upstate on Saturday at 3.
