This weekend was awesome! We went 4-0 and got to be in Charleston, S.C. I think we’re all planning to move there we loved it so much.
It started a little early on Thursday morning. We loaded the bus at 6:15 a.m. and prepared for a 10-hour bus ride. I wasn’t feeling too well so I slept pretty much the whole time but the girls watched “Easy A” after they woke up from their morning naps. We stopped for lunch at Panera, which is one of my favorite places, then finished off the rest of the drive. We arrived at the hotel at about 5:30 p.m. and had to do a little workout Will (Osburn, strength and conditioning coach) prepared for us just to get our bodies moving after being on a bus for so long. I got good roommates once again but this time I was with Jordan Abell and Ashley Anderson. We have some funny inside jokes now. That night we went to dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. I had one of the best steaks I’ve had in a while. We got back to the hotel and got in bed. It was kind of an early morning for us.
Friday we all woke up ready to play. There was rain coming but fortunately we got both of our games in that day. Other teams weren’t so lucky so some games got cancelled and moved to Saturday which meant that we only played one game Saturday instead of two and one on Sunday. We won both games, the first against Virginia Tech and then came from behind to win our second one against Wagner.
Friday night we were supposed to go to downtown Charleston but with the wind and storms our coaches didn’t want to chance taking the bus over the bridge so instead we ate at On The Border. It wasn’t bad except we waited 45 minutes for our food. It was Ashley’s 20th birthday and we all split her desert!
With the rain messing up the schedule a little bit our game got moved to 6 p.m. on Saturday so lucky for us we got to spend a beautiful afternoon walking around downtown Charleston. Whitney Kiihnl, Shelby Cunningham and I ventured off on our own and found cute local stores as well as a huge Forever 21, and a flea market. It was a great afternoon and I think that only added to our love for the city.
We rode back to the hotel and got ready for our game against MTSU. We were all so fired up. That’s the kind of attitude that makes softball fun. As coach said “This is for bragging rights,” which I think we earned those after run-ruling them in five innings. We finished our game around 11 p.m. and had pizza delivered to the hotel. It was a quick turnaround for us because we had to be at breakfast at 7 a.m. ready to check out.
Sunday we got to the field and had all the confidence in the world. When you play like we did this weekend and are coming off three wins that confidence just comes to you. We played Louisiana-Monroe and won that one 2-0. Whitney was lights out that game. I don’t think I’ve ever had the privilege of writing three backwards Ks in a row!
This weekend we head to Orlando and are looking to come home with some more wins under our belts. If we keep playing like we are and coming out with the same mentality then the only team that can beat us is ourselves. Having the energy and intensity we do makes softball fun and of course the wins come, which only increases the fun!
