Lipscomb Lady Bison softball coach Kristin Ryman can’t wait to put her team back on the field again.

The quicker they can all forget Saturday’s games, a 1-0 eight-inning loss and a 5-3 defeat in an Atlantic Sun doubleheader with Stetson at Draper Diamond, the better.

The Lady Bison will be back at Draper Diamond Tuesday against Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay with the first game starting at 4 p.m.

“Any next game is a good game,” Ryman said. “I think there are some things we need to go back and work on from everything to how we prepare, our pregame and the little things that happen during a game. We have to make sure we are on top of things and that everybody is taking care of what they are supposed to do.

“I truly feel like they are up for that challenge. Now that it is conference I feel like a lot of people are thinking about things differently and trying to do too much instead of just doing their thing. We saw that today more than we have the last couple of weeks.”

For the fourth A-Sun doubleheader-opening game in a row the Lady Bison dropped a 1-0 decision with right-hander Whitney Kiihnl on the mound. Kiihnl scattered eight hits, struck out eight and walked one.

With one out in the eighth Chelsey Trotto singled up the middle. Meredith Owen doubled down the left field line. Courtney Brandt followed with a double to right field to Trotto with what proved to be the game winning run.

Owen went the distance for Stetson, allowing only four hits while striking out five and walking two. All four Lady Bison hits were singles.

In game two the Lady Bison sent left-hander Ashley Anderson to the mound. She gave up one run in the second and two in the fourth, both off of a single up the middle by Owen.

Anderson, who gave up seven hits and three runs, struck out two and walked one. She was replaced by Kiihnl in the fifth.

Kiihnl got three outs that inning, but gave up a two-run homer to by Brandt down the left field line. Kiihnl, 17-9, was credited with loss.

The Lady Bison had to fight back twice to tie the game. They scored one run in the fourth to knot the game at 1-1. Trailing 3-1 in the sixth Haley Elliott blasted a two-run home run to left field to tie the game again.

“We have hit a rough patch,” Ryman said. “I saw a lot of people losing confidence today and getting frustrated with themselves. That is something that we don’t need to do. We need to choose to be confident.”

Elliott led the Lady Bison with two hits and three RBI. They managed only five hits as a team.

“Hitting-wise, we have to be able to make adjustments,” Ryman said. “A lot of it is being willing to work on our weaknesses in practice and get better. By now everybody knows our weaknesses and they are going to continue to pitch to our weaknesses.

“They can’t take a frustrated approach in practice. They have to come out and be ready to work hard and get better.”

The Lady Bison are 23-13, 3-5 in the A-Sun. Stetson is 19-14, 4-4 in the conference.
