Softball set to host pair of summer camps

The Junior Bison Skills camp for June 17-19 has been canceled.

Lipscomb softball coach Kristin Ryman and her players and staff have two camps scheduled for this summer.

The Junior Bison Softball Skills Camp is scheduled for June 17 through June 19.   The Advanced Softball Skills Camp for grades 9-through-12 is scheduled for July 15 and 16. Both camps will be held at Draper Diamond on the Lipscomb University campus.

The Junior Bison Camp will start each day at 9 a.m. and end at noon.

The Junior Bison Camp is designed for those younger players who are looking to improve their skills in all areas of the game.

Basic level skills on hitting and defense will be taught, including mechanics of the swing, bunting, fielding ground balls and fly balls, and throwing. Base running will also be covered, and we will finish up with our traditional Water Slide and Whiffle Ball Tournament.

Campers will be divided into groups, each with a leader, so that they may receive as much individual attention as possible. Camp instructors will include current Lipscomb staff and players.

The Advanced Skills Camp will start at 9 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. each day.

The Advanced Softball Skills Camp is designed for those players who have an interest in playing at a higher level.

For girls in grades 9-12, the camp is made up of high school players looking to improve their skills and gain exposure towards playing at the college level.

Campers will work to enhance all areas of hitting, including mechanics, bat speed, pitch recognition, and bunting/slapping. In addition, defense will also be covered, including footwork, fundamentals, and specific position skills. Campers will also have a chance to showcase their skills in live scrimmage games.

Teams will be formed on day two and multiple games will be played (number of teams will depend on number of campers). Camp instructors will include current Lipscomb staff and players.

Campers should bring a bag lunch for Advanced Skills Camp for lunch break on both days. Lunch will not be provided by Lipscomb. Campers may bring snacks and drinks for short breaks; water will be provided.

Junior Bison campers will receive a Lipscomb softball back pack. Advanced Skills campers will receive a T-shirt.

The Junior Bison Camp fee is $75. The Advanced Skills Camp fee is $125.
