Softball smacks 18 hits in Blues City Classic opener

SOUTHHAVEN, Miss. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons pounded a season-high 18 hits in a 9-2 win over Appalachian State Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Blues City Classic.

Gracey Aguirre led the Lady Bisons with four hits, her personal season high. Rena’ Cothron added three hits. Brianne Welch, Bridgette Begle. Mimi Cartwright and Kristen Sturdivant each added two.

The Lady Bisons have won their last three games and are 9-1 for the season. Appalachian State slipped to 1-7.

The Lady Bisons struck first with a run in the first, but Appalachian State answered in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer by Lindsey Loudermilk.

Lipscomb took a 3-2 lead with two runs in the third. The Purple and Gold added three runs in the fourth and three more in the seventh.

Begle, Aguirre and Neely each had a double.

Heather Parker, after giving up the two runs in the first, shut down Appalachian State the rest of the way. She scattered six hits and struck out five.

The Lady Bisons are back on the field at 5 to play Evansville.
