Kelsey Cartwright snags Player of the Week honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb University’s Kelsey Cartwright earned the Softball Player of the Week honors from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for her performances from March 3-9.

Kristen Sturdivant was named player of the week in the Atlantic Sun by College Sports Madness for her statistics during the same period.

Cartwright also received Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week honors for her performance during the same period.

Cartwright batted .500 (9-for-18) in five games for the Bisons, collecting six RBIs and four extra-base hits with a pair of home runs. The Joelton, Tenn., native went 3-for-4 with a triple, one run scored and two RBIs in the second game of a doubleheader against Ohio University.

She was 5-for-11 in a three-game series versus Florida Gulf Coast, including a solo homer in the first game of the series. Cartwright posted three hits with a double and home run and drove in three runs on the contest.

For the season she is batting .351 with three doubles, five homers, one triple and 20 RBI in 25 games.  She leads the team with a .610 slugging percentage.

College Sports Madness named Sturdivant for her exceptional performance during the past week’s action. College Sports Madness identifies the players who have made the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each week.

Sturdivant’s big hit of the week was a two-run home run in the sixth March 5 against Ohio University that proved to be a game-winner in a 2-1 decision.

For the season Sturdivant is batting .288. She leads the team in home runs with six and in RBI with 28. She also had four doubles. She is second on the team with a .589 slugging percentage.

The Purple and Gold will welcome Jacksonville University to Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium in a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Sunday’s single game is at noon.
