Softball welcomes WKU for doubleheader

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons softball team is back in action Tuesday afternoon when Western Kentucky visits from Conference USA.

The doubleheader at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

It is a quick turnaround for the Lady Bisons who played a three-game Atlantic Sun series opener Saturday and Sunday against Stetson.

The Lady Bisons were 1-2 in the series, winning 10-3 and losing 4-0 and 6-3.

Lipscomb is 12-16 overall. Western Kentucky is 14-5.

Paige Neely has an eight-game hitting streak for Lipscomb, the longest of the season. She leads the team with a .365 batting average and a 10 doubles. In the past five games she is hitting at a .529 clip.

Baylee Williams is the leader in runs batted in with 19.

In the circle Kelly Young is 6-9 with a 3.38 earned run average. Tanner Sanders is 4-6 with a 4.06 ERA.

Young is averaging almost a strikeout an inning with 93 in 95.1 innings. Sanders has 67 strikeouts in 79.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING WESTERN KENTUCKY:  The Lady Toppers are on a six-game winning streak including a 2-0 victory over Tennessee. They swept a three-game series with Ball State Saturday and Sunday.

Larissa Franklin is setting the pace at the plate with a .433 batting average. Dani Pugh leads in both home runs (five) and runs batted in (24).

Miranda Kramer is 9-4 with a 1.25 ERA. She is averaging almost two strikeouts an inning with 160 in 84.1 innings.

Hannah Parker is 4-1 with a 4.48 ERA.

Western Kentucky holds a 14-8 overall advantage in the series. The series began in 2002. In the last meeting the Lady Bisons won 7-1 April 23, 2014.


  • The first NCAA RPI of the season has the Lady Bisons ranked No. 75. USC Upstate, the top team in the A-Sun so far, is 60th. Also in the top 100 from the A-Sun are Kennesaw State at 81 and North Florida at 90. Western Kentucky is 33rd.
  • Elmore is seventh in the nation with an average of .86 stolen bases per game. She is first in the A-Sun with 24 stolen bases in 25 attempts. She was thrown out for the first time Sunday by Stetson.
  • As a team the Lady Bisons are 17th in the nation in stolen bases with an average of two per game.
  • In the A-Sun Young is second in strikeouts and in strikeouts looking with 26, third in the A-Sun in innings pitched, tied for third in games finished with seven, tied for fourth in appearances with 20, seventh in opponent’s batting average at .253 and tied for eighth in games started with 13.
  • Sanders is fourth in games started with 15, fifth in strikeouts, seventh in strikeouts looking (20), eighth in opponent’s batting average (.260) and ninth in innings pitched.
  • Abby Fenichel is second in the conference having been hit by a pitch eight times. Mimi Cartwright has been hit five times and is tied for seventh.

ON DECK: The Lady Bisons travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky for a three-game A-Sun series with Northern Kentucky Saturday and Sunday. A doubleheader Saturday begins at noon. A single game will be played Sunday at noon.
