MACON, Ga. - Lipscomb's Kelly Young was named Atlantic Sun Softball Pitcher of the Week for her performance over the weekend, announced by the league office on Monday.
Young pitched in four games for the Lady Bisons at the 2015 Mardi Gras Invitational in Mobile, Alabama. She recorded 17 strikeouts in 19.1 innings pitched for the weekend and finished with a 1-1 record.
She went seven innings and did not allow an earned run against Butler in the opening game of the tournament.
Young later on pitched six innings against No. 24-ranked South Alabama, the tournament host, and struck out two, while only giving up four hits in a loss.
She is currently tied for the conference lead in strikeouts with 28 after the opening two weeks of the season.
Young, a junior right-hander from Madison, Mississippi, transferred to the Lady Bisons after two seasons with Arkansas. This is her first A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honor.
