Softball looking for turnaround at TSU

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons are making a short road trip across town in search of something that has proved elusive – a pair of victories on the road.

The Lady Bisons, 9-14 overall, are 0-4 in true road games and 2-9 at neutral sites. They have lost their last four games, which included two games with top 25 teams, as they head into a doubleheader with Tennessee State from the Ohio Valley Conference Wednesday at Tiger Field.

The first game starts at 4:30 p.m. Game two is scheduled to begin at approximately 6:30. Tennessee State is 8-13 overall, 3-3 at home. Live stats and audio will be available.

The Lady Bisons hold a 12-5 overall in the series with TSU. Last season the Lady Bisons won 10-2 on Feb. 8 at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

Scouting TSU: The Tigers are coming off a double-header split with Tennessee Tech. Tennessee Tech won the three-game series 2-1.

Five players are batting .318 or better with Courtney Gearlds, Kailey Richard and Lauren Dreitlein are tied with each batting .333. Lindsey Burgess is first in RBI with 12. Six players have 10 RBI.

Burgess is the home run leader with five.

Taylor Green is 5-5 in the circle with a 7.85 earned run average. She has 30 strikeouts in 43.2 innings.

NCAA rankings: Brittany Elmore is rated 20th in the nation in stolen bases with an average of .74 per game.

As a team the Lady Bisons are 37th in stolen bases with an average of 1.65 per game.

Paige Neely is 47th in doubles with .39 per game.

A-Sun standings: Elmore, 17-for-17 in stolen bases, is tied for first in the Atlantic Sun.

Neely, with nine doubles, is second in the conference.

Abby Fenichel is tied for fourth having been hit by a pitch six times.

In the circle Kelly Young is second in strikeouts (75), tied for third in appearances (17), third in games finished (seventh), fourth in innings pitched (77.1) and eighth in opposing batting average (.264).

Tanner Sanders is fifth in strikeouts (57) and eighth in innings pitched (67.1).

Team leaders: Neely and Elmore are each batting .324 and are tied for the team lead.

Baylee Williams is first in RBI with 13. Neely and Gracey Aguirre each have 10.

Fenichel leads in home runs with four.

In the circle: Sanders is 5-6 with a 4.26 ERA. Young is 4-8 with a 3.26 ERA.

Young has made 17 appearances, 10 as a starter. Sanders has appeared in 14 games, 13 as a starter.

On deck: The Lady Bisons open A-Sun play this weekend with a three-game series with Stetson at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

A doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Saturday. A single game will be played Sunday at 1.
