Softball shuts down Iowa behind Sanders

ROSEMONT, Ill. – Lipscomb won its second game of the day and the fourth in a row Saturday with a 7-0 win over Iowa at the Total Control Sports Invitational Saturday.

Right-hander Tanner Sanders, 2-1, threw the first shutout of the season for Lipscomb. She allowed eight hits, struck out one and walked one.

The Lady Bisons are 4-4 overall. Iowa drops to 3-5. Lipscomb closes out the tournament Sunday morning at 9 against Eastern Kentucky at The Dome at Rosemont.

Caitlin Plocheck hit the first grand slam of the season for the Lady Bisons as part of a five-run fifth inning. Plocheck also connected for a double.

Abby Fenichel added a triple. The Lady Bisons finished with nine hits.

Brittany Elmore and Kasey Gibson each drove in runs on singles. Elmore brought Khayla Green home in the third to start the scoring for Lipscomb. Green also scored on Gibson’s hit in the sixth.

Base hits

  • Lipscomb is 4-0 overall in the series with Iowa.
  • Elmore extended her hitting streak to eight games.
  • Plocheck’s four RBI tie Fenichel for the team single-game high for the season.
  • Elmore and Green each stole a base.
