Softball tops Northern Kentucky in five innings

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lipscomb Lady Bisons made a quick come back in the first day of the Frost Classic with a 10-1 win over Northern Kentucky.

The game was called after the top of the fifth due to the run rule.

The Lady Bisons pounded six hits. In the opening game of the day they did not get a hit in a 4-0 loss to No. 18 Kentucky.

Sarah Higgins had the big hit of the game with Northern Kentucky with a three-run homer over the left field fence in the fourth Inning.

Lipscomb struck in the first. Brittany Elmore reached base on a walk. Abby Fenichel doubled to left center scoring Elmore. Fenichel scored on an error by the third baseman.

In the second Riley Brown reached base on a walk and advanced to second on a balk. She scored on a double to right center by Khayla Green.

Green scored on a fielder's choice to short by Elmore. Kasey Gibson brought home Destinee Brewer for the third run.

Fenichel and Gibson each had two hits.

Kelly Young evened her record at 2-2. She struck out eight, walked one and gave up four hits.

The Lady Bisons play two more games Sarurday. They play Evansville at 10 a.m. and Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m.

Lipscomb is 5-6. Northern Kentucky is 1-6.
