Lipscomb softball splits games Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb softball team split a pair of games in the second day of the Purple and Gold Challenge.

The Lady Bisons lost 4-2 in eight innings to Youngstown State. They opened the day with a 2-0 over Troy. Both games were played Saturday afternoon at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.

Tanner Sanders, 5-5, pitched a season high eight innings. She scattered six hits, walked six and struck out eight. Three of he runs were earned.

Lipscomb second baseman Baylee Williams had a game high three hits. She singled up the middle for an RBI single in the first inning. Williams doubled to right to score Abby Fenichel who led off the fifth inning with a double.

Youngstown State scored one run in the fourth and one in the fifth. In the eighth Youngstown State scored twice to seal the win.

Against Troy Lipscomb pitcher Kelly Young struck out an individual game-high 11 batters and allowed on two runs a 2-0 win over Troy Saturday afternoon.

Young, 3-2, gave up a bunt single to start the first inning and a single to left field in the seventh. She walked three batters.

Young opened the second inning with a single through the left side. Young advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field.

In the third inning, with one out, Sarah Higgins blasted a solo home run to center field.
The Lady Bisons are 10-8. Troy is 14-5.

Lipscomb connected for nine hits. Higgins led with three followed by Kasey Gibson and Young with two each.
