Softball set to host FGCU

NASHVILLE, Teen. – Based on the results in the first couple of weeks it would appear the Atlantic Sun softball season is going to be a series of three-game grinds.

Saturday and Sunday Lipscomb will be hosting Florida Gulf Coast at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium. A doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. A single game is scheduled for Sunday at 1. Saturday will be “Senior Day” since this is the last A-Sun home series of the season for Lipscomb. The Lady Bisons will close out conference play with three road series.

Lipscomb enters the weekend with an 18-17 overall record, 3-3 in the A-Sun. FGCU is also 18-17 overall, 2-1 in the conference.

FGCU opened A-Sun play winning two of three games against USC Upstate. Lipscomb won two-out-of-three from Jacksonville. The Lady Bisons have lost three games in a row.

Lipscomb has a 12-7 advantage in the overall series with wins in nine of the last 10 games. FGCU has never won a series against Lipscomb.

Scouting FGCU: Freshmen are playing key roles for FGCUI. Racquel Fournet leads the conference in hitting with a .394 average. She is one of five players batting more than .300.

Riley Randolph leads the team with a 7-3 record and a 1.49 earned run average.

National rankings: As a team the Lady Bisons are 59th with a 2.77 ERA and 82nd with an average of 1.31 stolen bases per game.

Kasey Gibson is 32nd in sacrifice hits with an average of .26 per game.

Sarah Higgins is 36 in home runs with nine. Higgins is 82nd with a .724 slugging percentage.

Kelly Young is 18th in strikeouts per seven innings with 9.4 per game. She is 23rd in strikeouts with 123.

A-Sun rankings: Higgins is second to Fournet in batting with a .381 average. She leads the conference in slugging percentage. She is second in total bases with 76. She is fourth with a .444 on-base percentage. She is fifth in hits with 40 and runs batted in with 27. She is tied for third in home runs.

Gibson leads in sac bunts with nine.

Abby Fenichel has been hit by a pitch nine times this season, ranking her third in the category.

Young is first with a .210 opposing batting average. Tanner Sanders is tied for third at .222.

Young is second in strikeouts and Sanders is third with 102. Young and Sanders are tied with each getting 34 batters to strikeout looking.

Sanders is third in innings pitched with 115.1. She is fourth with a 2.00 ERA.
