Softball falls short in Stetson series

DELAND, Fla. – The road was less than kind to the Lipscomb softball team this weekend.

They lost 3-1 Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic Sun game against Stetson at Patricia Wilson Field. Stetson also won the series 2-1.

Lipscomb is 22-22 overall, 7-8 in the A-Sun. Stetson is 29-19, 8-6 in the conference.

The Lady Bisons struck first in the fifth inning. Plocheck opened the inning with a double and later scored on a fielder’s choice sac bunt by Malorie Giere.

Stetson tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with a run on a wild pitch. Ashly Smith sealed the game with a two-RBI home run to left center.

Kelly Young, 11-8, scattered four hits. She struck out six and walked two.

Tori Perkins picked up the win for Stetson. She allowed four hits, struck out one and did not walk a batter.

Base hits

  • Elmore extended her hitting streak to 14 games, tying Sarah Higgins for the longest streak of the season on the team. Elmore also had an 11-game streak earlier this season.
  • Elmore ended her multi-hit game streak at seven with only one hit in the series finale with Stetson.
  • Plocheck hit her 10th double. She is second on the team to Abby Fenichel who has 12.
  • Fenichel is tied with Higgins for the team RBI lead with 31.

Next up: The Lady Bisons are back home after a long absence for a single game with Murray State Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium.
